Do you ever sit around daydreaming about how to live a really cool balanced life, for real? The secret is that it’s not a secret; it is a worthy goal that is absolutely possible to attain. This is not some pie in the sky idea that’s only available to the rich and famous. You can have it too. There are so many people today living life on their terms and redefining the very meaning of success in the 21st century. The catch, tho is that you might have to redefine your idea of success, happiness and fulfillment as well to hit that target.
Start By Asking Yourself A Few Targeted Questions
Is your life more hectic than ever? Do you find that you become tired more frequently, lose patience easily, experience moodiness, and are so stressed that you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel? Have you lost contact with your friends? Has fun completely gone out of your life?
While we tend to think we can do it all; the problem is we can’t. We forego simple pleasures, take on unnecessary burdens and, quite frankly, put other’s needs before our own. This is a recipe for ill-health, depression, and overall sadness. It’s time to finally sit down and determine how to live a really cool balanced life.
Performing selfless acts is noble, but over time it takes a toll we may not be aware of. There is nothing wrong with being a little selfish. While everyone seems to be concentrating on themselves, you are focusing on them and losing yourself in the process.
The first step to a balanced life is to think about you and your needs. If you fall apart, you won’t be of any use to anyone. Selfishness is not defined by an inability to help others; it is the means by which you regenerate yourself by focusing on your own needs. Simple ordinary pleasures can make a world of difference in your life.
Here is a list of a few low cost or free suggestions to try:
- A manicure and/or pedicure, alone or with close friends
- A relaxing massage
- Forrest bathing (basically a long walk in the woods)
- A nutritious meal with friends or alone
- A fun movie
- A free yoga or pilates class
- Visit a local bookstore and read for hours
- Savor a refreshing cup of tea
- Take a soothing hot bath
- Hire a babysitter
- Take a nap
- Go outside and get some sun
You would be surprised how refreshed you will feel by just taking some personal time to focus on yourself. These small activities add up and will cause you to be more focused and self-aware. As a result, you will feel even more empowered to create some real balance in your life.
When’s The Last Time You Checked Your Mental and Emotional State
Your mental and emotional state has more to do with the balance within than you realize. Worry drains us, yet we can’t seem to control it. We tolerate too many things that essentially drain our energy, leaving us feeling empty and void of feeling. Sleepless nights ensue, and the cycle begins all over again the next day. Confront the problems head-on; let the water out of the tank before it bursts open. Instead of worrying about the things you can control, try creating a plan to address them. While worry will drain you, taking action will empower you. You can’t always fix every problem, but you would be surprised how many have an actionable solution if you search for it.
When possible, solicit the help of a close friend. Many times when you share your problems with a trusted confidant, the weight begins to lessen on your shoulders. They might even suggest a perspective that you’ve never considered because you were just to close to the situation.
Detox toxic people from your life (if possible)
You can’t always get rid of all of the negative toxic people in your life, but you can set boundaries and limit the time you spend with them. You have to learn how to protect your space from intruders who are intent on invading your thoughts and stealing your inner peace. If someone is rude or makes a disparaging remark; walk away. If a situation arises creating angst, deal with it then let it go. Don’t let it disrupt your life by claiming it as your own. You didn’t create it, nor are you responsible for it. Try not to solve the ills of the world or place an unrealistic burden on your shoulders. Life is hard enough without placing unimportant needs ahead of your own.
Be Honest and Learn to Love Yourself
A path well taken is one of integrity and honesty. Love yourself. Practice looking in the mirror every morning and acknowledge the unique person that you are. Empower yourself to accomplish your most intimate goals. Acknowledge the kindness and good in you; you may be hard-pressed to find anyone who will. Conduct yourself with dignity and honor. Finally, take charge of your life; nurture it, reward it; and the balance within will reveal itself through the smile on your face, and the gleam in your eyes.
As always!
Be well + prosper,
Elaine
