The first thing you must do is take responsibility for where you are right now and your future. Stop comparing yourself to other people. I love starting out with this one because it’s simple and free. Don’t wait for circumstances to change before you can smile. Begin to change your circumstances by smiling more..much more. Smiling can boost your mood by increasing the “feel good” endorphins in your brain. Don’t deny yourself and others of this great pleasure; smiling is contagious. It will change you and the people around you. Besides nobody likes a grouch. Nobody!
CREATE A VALUE SYSTEM THAT RESONATES WITH YOU
Refuse to live someone else’s life. Make this one of your top commandments this year: “I shall be myself”. When you only have an idea of who you wish you were, it actually obscures your understanding of who you really are. When you spend a lot of time on social media mindlessly scrolling through Facebook and Instagram feeds, everything and everyone looks so awesome and happy. Of Course, we should celebrate others’ victories, but we should also be crafting our own. But when you constantly feed your mind and spirit social media feeds, you can subconsciously get lost in lala land. You can get so distracted that you lose sight of your own vision. All of sudden you start craving what you see and misery easily can set in.
Instead, take the time to think about what an amazing life will look like for you and your family. Learn from others, but don’t try to emulate them too much because we are all so unique. The lifestyle that may seem so alluring to you on Facebook might, in reality, make you a bit miserable. Forget about the “Jones”. Define the type of life you want to live independent from others’ expectations or goals…what does success look like for you? Dial down the social media and the negative voice in your head and get a vision for you, based on your deep seeded values and your purpose and you will start to live an amazing life.
FIND TIME TO SPEND WITH YOUR FAVORITE PEOPLE
My sister lives miles away. I remember the day, that I made a quality decision to literally drop everything when she calls and pick up the phone. You could think that because I work from home that would be easy to do. Not true, those of us who work from home have to be super disciplined with managing our time. When I’m writing, I typically never pick up the phone, that time is sacred, except for my “sissy”. There are usually only a handful of people that really brighten up our world. When you make quality time for them, life gets sweeter.
In the end, relationships matter more than anything else. Those who live an amazing life know this truth.
WORK DILIGENTLY TO INCREASE YOUR CONFIDENCE
Those who live an amazing life seem to exude confidence. You may wonder which came first, “the chicken or the egg”? It’s usually a bit of both. You can find ways to boost your confidence while on this journey. Confidence can open doors for you that insecurity can not. People love to be around those who are confident and believe in themselves. It’s downright inspirational. Do what you can to increase your confidence. Sometimes, getting the proper skills and training can increase your confidence exponentially. Other times, getting a proper haircut and manicure will give you do the trick. Getting better at your craft and up leveling your appearance naturally boosts your confidence which help you to live an amazing life.
DECLUTTER, GET ORGANIZED AND GET MORE STUFF DONE
Everyday there are more books and YT videos popping up about decluttering, organizing and simplifying your life and rightfully so. Studies have proven that this is an uncommon way to live an amazing life. When you embrace the strategy that less is more, you might actually boost your happiness and your productivity. When you “get stuff done”, it releases a dopamine response in your brain. Dopamine is the happy sauce, it’s your reward for crushing your projects. This can create an incredible amount of momentum in your business and your personal life. Take a simple inventory, if all that stuff surrounding you doesn’t “Spark Joy”, then you might want to donate or trash it.
SHORTEN YOUR COMMUTE
Here’s an unusual nugget. I was shocked when I saw this while researching this subject matter. Did you know that driving long distances can cause a level of subliminal stress? That’s right. It’s a fact that most people who have a long commute are a little miserable, no matter how much they “love their job”. If that’s you, try to think of creative ways to shorten your commute. Maybe your boss might allow you to work from home a few days of the week. Maybe it’s time to creates goals around starting a home based business, if that’s one of your dreams. Get creative, shortening your commute could bring you more happiness.
TAKE TIME TO SMELL THE ROSES
Although you “know” this, it still bears repeating. Slow down long enough to “smell the roses”of life. Focusing on the present moment is a concept that’s been getting a lot of press lately and rightfully so. When you actively focus on the moment you will reduce your stress levels, lower your hart rate, increase your energy and begin to truly experience “more life”. Studies show that those who have mastered this practice, live more fulfilling lives regardless of their financial status.
TAKE REALLY GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF
Focusing on work and family provides a great excuse for not taking proper care of yourself. I once heard a very wise woman say, “the key to living an amazing life is taking care of yourself, while taking care of others”. Needless to say, she lived well into her nineties. Let me be specific here. I’m not talking about buying a new dress or 5 pairs of shoes. Most of us have mastered the art of shopping. I mean really take great care of yourself. This is includes, eating well, drinking lots of water, exercising regularly, getting amazing sleep and getting regular checkups. Take the time you need to focus on your health and mental well being. This article gives some helpful tips for taking good care of yourself.
LEARN ONE NEW THING A DAY
Learning new skills can actually increase the neuroplasticity of your brain.
According to Medicine Net, the medical definition of neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. Neuroplasticity allows the neurons (nerve cells) in the brain to compensate for injury and disease and to adjust their activities in response to new situations or to changes in their environment. In other words, your brain will work better and be healthier.
I’m not just talking about overdosing on information. I’m mean actually learning “how” to do something new. For example, learning to play a new instrument, or learning a new language or learning a new business strategy or technique like: video creation or podcasting. You’d be floored at how learning something new, engages the mind and helps you live an amazing life.
MAKE MORE MONEY AND WORRY LESS
Yup, I’m going to say it. A lack of money is one of life’s biggest stressors and distracts so many from living an amazing life. Start this year by creating a realistic budget to determine how much cash you actually need. Then be creative about increasing your income. You could add a side hustle, work overtime and even cut out cable. Whatever you do, do something. Don’t just bury your head in the sand and hope that it goes away. This creates subliminal stress and anxiety that pours into every area of your life and can keep you from living an amazing life.
